Relieved we didn’t complicate it in that way
And kept a golden friendship anyway
Free from the mundanities that fuel our strife
And, all too often, become our Life
*
Whoever said “there are those we marry… and those we love”
Said it all in simple verse
So, I’m happy to find you in this irony
Free of expectation, promises and fated anomaly
*
Yet, in another world, we would be such keepers of our word
Such partners of the soul, such breakers of the mould
That it takes courage not to succumb
To what, (in this life), we must not become!
