Shards of Destiny

08/09/2022

I have seen the hand of Destiny
I have peeked behind the veil
I have spied designs upon my life
Unsure from where they hail

I see the puzzle of my life
Pieces strewn across the floor
Now, I’m asked to join the dots
Just this and little more

Why did I not notice this?
These fragments on the floor
Because your eyes were closed back then
A voice gives me the cause

Although most are just accorded one
I trod three paths through Life’s wood
Where first I wandered as a lad
Just as aimlessly as I could

The first was from my native land
Where I was born and bred
The second, a land of Eastern domes
For which my heart has bled
Finally, a home of Island jewels
To which, fatefully, I was led

I never saw these things before
I never spied the pattern
Until later in life’s journey
Things began to happen

These anomalies have been there all along
What I lacked was wisdom
To see the course laid out for me
Was anything but random

I see it spread behind me plain
That sprawling lay of land
And how my passage through Life’s wood
Was nothing if not planned

What I’m now attuned to
Is that parting of the trees
To show these paths entwining
And the connections in between

These have not been random things
These milestones of my life
But the subtly whirring cogs of Fate
With its plan for me in sight.

The conviction I now hold of this
Is not one based on thought
I wish it was, coz if thoughts can change
Gut feelings surely cannot.
